Finnally a real trip report. 99% of trip reports only turn to the bad side, like the authors could do better, only speaking negative things. What is interesting on a trip report is the experience itself, what the airline offers and do, not some biased opinions of people who think of themselves as the real travellers. I travelled on a few of these as a kid starting London airport to Boston in 1967. It cost $220 one way then and can be multiplied at least 10 times for the price in todays money. All men in business suits, pretty pill box hatted crew in pale blue uniforms. Yes, Pan Am 707 and it sounded just like this. Unforgettable. The pilot told me that the aircraft burned the same amount of fuel on one flight as it would take a VW would to burn in 35 years running non stop. BTW 50% of engine power was required to get the plane moving for taxi. The JT engines were not very powerful compared to todays high bypass motors.

its very scary how you can see that no matter you over correct this ancient aircraft, it still seems very heavy to control, along the fact that the whole instrument panel almost ripped off along touchdown, but great footage overall thanks patrick!.

Flew Garuda airlines in 1964 as a six year old. Cannot remember the engine sound. Don't know if it was a 707 or DC8 it had four jet engines. We left Indonesia then and have never gone back.

4:00 Great to hear the turbines spool up and simultaneously watch the auxiliary air intake doors on the nacelles open to boost air flow :-) From memory the JT9D turbofans on the first 747-100s also feature these intake doors (plus water injection to increase exhaust mass, therefore thrust). Also enjoyed the nacelle wobble as the airplane gained speed :-)
